Custom whiteboards: what to confirm before you ask

What custom means for whiteboards

A custom whiteboard order is an order shaped around a particular room: a wall of a particular kind, a group of a particular size, a use of a particular rhythm. Custom does not mean unlimited choice; it means the order is discussed before it is placed, and the discussion settles what matters.

This page therefore lists confirmations, not specifications. It says what a buyer should be ready to describe, so the conversation about a custom order starts from the room rather than from a catalogue name.

Confirm the room first

The first confirmation is the room: its size, its light, its wall, and the seats that must read the board. A room that seats a small group and a room that seats a large one ask different things of a board, and the discussion should start from those asks.

The second confirmation is the use: whether the board will carry lessons, plans, rotas or working notes, and how often it will be rewritten. A board rewritten daily and a board rewritten termly live different lives.

Confirm mounting and placement

Mounting belongs in the discussion early, not late. A board that will hang needs a wall that suits it. A board that will stand needs floor space and a reason to move. A board that will sit on a desk needs a desk with room for it.

Unusual walls, tight rooms and shared spaces should all be named in the inquiry. They change the conversation more than any preference about appearance does.

Confirm the fit-out as a whole

Custom orders often arrive as fit-outs: several rooms, several boards, one project. A fit-out inquiry should confirm the whole list of rooms, not just the largest one, because the smaller rooms are where a standard answer most often fails.

It should also confirm the order of rooms: which rooms matter first, and whether boards can arrive in stages. Staging is a practical question that belongs in the inquiry, not an afterthought.

What to put in your inquiry

A useful custom whiteboard inquiry describes the rooms, the uses, the mounting, and whether the order is a single room or a whole fit-out.

Confirm the minimum order quantity and lead time for your order in your inquiry, and describe the rooms so the reply can be specific.
